Two Injured in Palmetto Expressway Crash as Rescue Crews Respond in Miami-Dade

MIAMI-DADE COUNTY, Fla. – Emergency crews responded to a serious crash Friday morning on the Palmetto Expressway in Miami-Dade County, where two people were injured in an incident that briefly shut down all southbound lanes.

According to the Florida Highway Patrol, the collision occurred near Northwest 36th Street. Initial reports from Miami-Dade Fire Rescue indicated the crash involved entrapment, requiring specialized equipment to free those inside the vehicle.

Rescue teams worked at the scene as traffic cameras showed multiple emergency units blocking the roadway. A helicopter was also deployed, landing directly on the highway to transport one of the victims to a nearby trauma center—an indication of the severity of at least one injury.

Officials have not yet released the identities of those involved, and the cause of the crash remains under investigation.

Incidents like this highlight the challenges of high-traffic corridors such as the Palmetto Expressway, one of the busiest routes in the region. Safety experts often point to congestion and speed as contributing factors in similar accidents, though authorities have not confirmed specifics in this case.

Motorists were urged to seek alternate routes as crews cleared the scene and restored traffic flow.
