Authorities in Zanzibar are still working to determine the circumstances surrounding the death of social media personality Ashlee Jenae, who was found unresponsive at a high-end resort earlier this month.
Jenae, born Ashly Robinson, had been staying at Zuri Zanzibar when the incident occurred. Police say she had a reported disagreement with her fiancé, Joe McCann, shortly before she was discovered unconscious in her private villa.
According to regional police commander Benedict Mapujira, resort staff stepped in during the dispute and separated the couple, later contacting local authorities. Jenae was transported to a hospital but died the following day.
Officials have stressed that no official cause of death has been confirmed. While early speculation suggested possible self-harm, investigators say conclusions have not been reached and all possibilities remain under review.
Jenae’s family has raised concerns about initial reports and is seeking transparency as they work with Tanzanian authorities and U.S. representatives. Their response highlights a common challenge in international cases, where families often rely on multiple agencies for information.
Analysts note that incidents involving public figures tend to draw rapid online attention, sometimes leading to unverified claims. Authorities have urged patience as forensic reviews and interviews continue.
The investigation remains ongoing, with no charges filed and further updates expected as officials work to establish a clear account of events.
