Keith Kutska, the final member of the controversial “Monfils Six” to receive parole, has died at age 74, according to an obituary announcement.
Kutska died February 24 while traveling in Arizona, roughly six months after his release from a correctional facility in Prairie du Chien. He had been convicted in connection with the 1992 killing of Tom Monfils at a paper mill in Green Bay.
In 1995, Kutska and five coworkers were sentenced to life in prison with the possibility of parole. Prosecutors argued Monfils had reported Kutska for theft before his death. The six men consistently maintained their innocence, and the case has remained a subject of legal debate and public interest for decades.
The Wisconsin parole board granted Kutska release in August 2023, citing his lengthy time served and strong institutional record. His co-defendants had previously been released after serving between six and 24 years.
A Celebration of Life is expected to be announced, as the long-disputed case continues to draw reflection within Wisconsin legal circles.
