A recreational trip in Georgia turned fatal after Daniel Mackin died from head injuries sustained in a golf cart accident, prompting an investigation that briefly led to the arrest of his wife, Cynthia Mackin.
According to police accounts, Daniel Mackin was riding on the back of a moving golf cart driven by Cynthia when he fell and struck the pavement. Emergency responders transported him for medical care, but he later died from his injuries. Officers at the scene reported observing signs of impairment and administered a breath test that showed Cynthia Mackin’s blood alcohol content at 0.09.
She was initially arrested on suspicion of driving under the influence. However, authorities later dismissed the DUI charge following further review after her husband’s death. Legal experts note that such dismissals can occur when prosecutors determine the available evidence does not meet the threshold for proceeding in court.
The situation drew additional attention when former Major League Baseball player Justis Logan Morrison was arrested for obstruction amid what officials described as a tense and chaotic scene.
Safety advocates say the case highlights the often-overlooked risks associated with golf carts, particularly when passengers ride unsecured. Investigations into the incident’s full circumstances have not been publicly detailed.
