Michael R. Frey Obituary
Michael R. Frey, a longtime public servant whose career spanned nearly four decades passed away.
Frey served 37 years working for Fairfax County Government and 24 years on the Board of Supervisors, where he built a reputation for steady leadership and bipartisan collaboration.
According to Pat Herrity, a current board member and former colleague, Frey was not only a mentor but also a trusted friend.
“Michael’s commitment to this community never wavered,” Herrity shared, reflecting on Frey’s decades of service.
Among Frey’s most visible legacies is the Fairfax County Animal Shelter, Michael R. Frey Campus in Fair Lakes, renamed in his honor in 2016.
A passionate advocate for animal welfare, Frey championed shelter improvements and responsible pet policies long before such issues gained widespread political attention.
Local governance experts note that long-serving officials like Frey often shape institutional memory and community identity.
His early political involvement began in 1978, working for Herrity’s father during his tenure as chairman a testament to Frey’s deep roots in county leadership.
