Suspect Dead After Vehicle Ramming and Gunfire at Temple Israel in Michigan Suburb

Michigan Suburb – Authorities are investigating a violent incident at Temple Israel after a suspect drove a vehicle into the synagogue’s entrance and opened fire, injuring a security guard before being killed during a confrontation with armed personnel.

The attack occurred shortly after 12:30 p.m. local time in West Bloomfield Township, triggering a large emergency response from police, firefighters, and federal agents. Officials said the suspect rammed the vehicle through the building’s doors, striking a guard who was stationed near the entrance.

Michael Bouchard confirmed that additional security staff inside the synagogue quickly responded and exchanged gunfire with the suspect, who died at the scene. The injured guard was transported for medical treatment and is expected to recover.

The vehicle involved in the incident later caught fire, producing heavy smoke that required emergency crews to evacuate the building. Staff members and children at an attached daycare facility were safely moved away from the area during the response.

Officials also reported that about 30 responding officers were treated for smoke inhalation during the incident.

The Federal Bureau of Investigation has joined the investigation and is examining the case as a potential targeted attack against the Jewish community. Authorities have not yet released the suspect’s identity or determined a clear motive.

Local leaders say the quick actions of security personnel likely prevented further injuries, while investigators continue reviewing evidence and the suspect’s background.
