Marysville, MI – The hockey community in Michigan is paying tribute to former collegiate player Dylan Pavelek, whose time on the ice with Michigan State University left a lasting impression on teammates, coaches, and fans.
Originally from Marysville, Pavelek played four seasons with the Spartans men’s hockey program between 2015 and 2018. The university’s athletics community recently shared condolences with his family, reflecting on his commitment to the team and the role he played during his collegiate career.
Pavelek contributed across multiple seasons with the Spartans, appearing in numerous games and steadily developing as a player. During the 2016–17 season, he recorded two goals and two assists in 22 appearances, marking his most active season with the program. Injuries limited his senior season, but he still recorded two assists in a 6–0 victory over Lake Superior State Lakers men’s ice hockey.
Before arriving at Michigan State, Pavelek competed at the national level with the USA Hockey National Team Development Program. He also represented the United States at the 2014 IIHF Under-18 World Championship in Finland, gaining experience alongside some of the country’s top young players.
Former teammates say Pavelek’s work ethic and resilience stood out. “He was someone who pushed himself every day and supported the people around him,” one teammate recalled.
His journey—from youth hockey to international competition and NCAA athletics—reflects the dedication required to succeed at the highest amateur levels. As tributes continue from across the hockey community, many remember Pavelek not only for his achievements on the ice but also for the friendships and positive influence he brought to those around him.
